This was not helped by my overactive imagination - I’d be struck with dread multiple times during each dive only to realize that those damned notes were just playing in my head. It starts so faintly and gives you so little time to react that by the time you’re trying to process whether or not you’ve actually heard the first three notes, some horrible, deformed toothy maw is rushing at your face. Because when something has its sights set on you in Everblue 2, you’re greeted to this lovely tune. A few minutes would usually go by before the sprawling void was suddenly breached by a passing fish or rock, and that was all it took to send me into a brief panic that could take several minutes to recover from. ![]() ![]() As I cautiously crawled across it while scanning for treasure, I remained dead silent and watched the water ahead of me through my peripheral vision. The abyss was especially unnerving for me as a kid - there was nothing but inky blackness, marine snow, the sound of my own labored breathing, and the precious few feet of visible seafloor before me. I still have nightmares.Įverblue 2 is a bit like Endless Ocean, except that the ocean is dead set on killing you. I like to celebrate milestones with memorable moments from games, and I don’t think it gets any more memorable for me than Gulper Shark encounters from Everblue 2 (PS2). ![]()
